Tips for customizing JPG and PDF files

Go back

After you've downloaded and saved a high-resolution PDF or JPG file, customize it using any of a number of standard desktop publishing or photo editing programs.

If you don't have any of these programs, you can still customize Googolplex newsletters, comics, and activities:

Microsoft Word on a PC:

1. Save the JPEG image you want to use onto your PC.

2. Create a new, blank document in Word, with quarter-inch margins on all sides (or the smallest margins your printer supports).

3. Use the “Insert,” “Picture,” and “From File” commands to place the JPG you saved on the page.

4. Double click on the image, select the Layout tab, and pick the wrapping style “Behind Text.” Use the arrow keys in your numeric keypad to center the image, or grab it with a left click and move it.

5. Adjust the image size for your needs by left clicking on any of the “handles” on the corners.

6. Use the “Insert,” “Picture,” and “From File” commands to insert your logo. Manipulate it using the same procedures as step 4.

7. Double click on the image, select the Layout tab, and change the wrapping style to “In Front of Text.”

8. Use the “Insert,” and “Text Box” commands to insert a text box for your credit union URL.

9. Save and print to a color or black/white printer.

Scissors cut-and-paste:

Open the B/W or color PDF file of the image you want and print. With scissors and glue stick, you can build a kids’ newsletter page. Print, then add your logo, your credit union URL, comics, and activities. Tell kids and their parents to visit Googolplex on your credit union web site for more money fun and facts. Print the final version.

The printed result won’t be as crisp as with importing the JPG or PDF directly into desktop publishing or photo editing software.

Put comics and activities everywhere!

Create a handout each quarter and distribute them to all kids who visit the credit union. Include them in birthday mailings to young members, and hand out copies to families visiting the drive-up window.

Take stacks to area schools and libraries, and hand out copies at various community events.
