Every year the federal government prints an average of 850 million $5 dollar bills. Each of those bills is put into circulation, meaning they head out on 850 million different adventures!
Let's follow just one of those bills (we'll call him Five Spot) on his life's journey. Where will he go? What will he do? U DECIDE!
Our story begins with the birth of a brand new five dollar bill...
Five Spot was born at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. After printing, he gets stacked in a pile with 99 other $5 bills and bundled into a brick for shipping.
From the Bureau, Five Spot and his new buddies will go to one of 12 Federal Reserve Banks located throughout the U.S. Though the Bureau is Five Spot's birthplace, this new Federal Reserve Bank will become his 'hometown.'
Five Spot's hometown is identified by a unique letter and number, both printed right on his face!
The letter and number combination identifies what Federal Reserve he came from.
U DECIDE: Which letter is printed on Five Spot?
