Thaipusam is a Hindu festival honoring the god Murugan. His traditional mount is a peacock. The Kalamkari tapestry behind American spokesperson Auriana Gilliland-Lloyd depicts the tree of life, below which poses Murugan's peacock.

Kalamkari is an ancient craft of painted and printed fabrics. It is hand painted as well as block printed with vegetable dyes. Techniques of craftsmanship in Kalamkari were handed down within the families from generation to generation. This piece was painted by a craftsman at Dakshinachitra in Muttukadu, Chinglepet District, Tamilnadu.
