BLOGGER BIO
NAME: Bridget
ABOUT ME: I’m a sophomore at the Robert E. Cook Honors College at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I am continually obtaining "money smarts" by working during holiday break and summer vacation at the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union. At my university, I am employed as a Peer Mentor helping incoming freshman get situated. I keep busy as the secretary of the Pre-Law Society, a member of both Phi Eta Sigma and Phi Alpha Delta, and judicial board.
Growing in Big Ways
November 22nd, 2009 at 4:37 am

Last night I went out with my best friend to the movie called New Moon. I had no idea how popular this movie is. The first two showings were sold out, but we ended up going at 10pm. It was excellent, and that show was sold out too.

I was impressed by the turnout at the showing, and I believe there is a silver lining in the recession. Although national firms have eliminated seven million jobs, there are companies looking to hire.

For example, MSN points out how this recession is allowing Wal-Mart to win over customers from high-priced competitors. The company states that approximately 4,200 stores in the U.S. have medium-term growth goals.

Another company that is doing well is Abbott Laboratories, which makes medical essentials. Even in a recession, people still buy necessities such as the pharmaceutical products that Abbott manufactures. The company is also seeking to expand, which is important for the future.

All in all, finding a job takes some legwork, but it’s worth it. What are your job-seeking experiences?
