Farewell! Have a Successful Summer Break
June 2nd, 2013 at 9:24 am

I’m sorry to say that this is my last post. Thank you all so much for reading and commenting! I’ve loved blogging for you guys!

Blogging has been so fun! It’s improved my writing,  and it has opened up so many more opportunities for me.  I’m so glad I got to do this. You should try blogging too. Either start you own blog, or apply for this blogging job for C-Note. Follow this link to apply–hurry! Deadline is June 28. It’s a great experience that I know you’ll enjoy.

Over the past year, I’ve written about several different topics- starting a business, saving money, making money, spending your money wisely, and also other things, like school, interacting with your community, and making the world a better place.  Today, I just want to wrap it all up.

First things first: Money! Like I’ve said a lot, saving is important, but but you have to make the money first. Consider starting a business. You can do whatever you want- make necklaces, cookies, hair ties,or offer services-dog walking, babysitting, or tutoring. Advertise and slowly bring in business. Then save your money–use a piggy bank or  a credit union. Whatever works for you!

As for interacting in your community more, I’ve often emphasized the importance of volunteering. I think it is a great way to get involved and make friends, while helping your community.

This also goes along with making the world a better place. I’ve blogged numerous times about  being eco-friendly. It’s important to focus on recycling, volunteering, and thinking about other people and the environment.

Now, before I finish, I have a few more pieces of advice for you:

Summer homework: I know you think you will never ever procrastinate again after procrastinating on all your final projects, but it happens to everyone. Over the summer, I suspect that many of you have homework to do. I have a hard time enjoying myself over the summer when I know I have work that needs to get done, so I try to get it out of the way quickly. What I usually do is create a step-by-step plan for doing my homework so that I do a bit each week. Try to write your plan so you don’t do all of your homework at the end of break. Trust me, it’s better that way!

Summer fun: It’s not all about homework though–have fun! I get bored a lot during the summer, but this year, I’ve come up with lots of things to do. Here are a few:

1) Get a pen-pal from a foreign country. Learn some words in your pen pal’s native language, and send letters, pictures, and souvenirs back and forth. Exchange cultural tid-bits too. It’ll be fun to make a new friend and learn about different languages and cultures.

2) Learn a new skill. It doesn’t have to be useful, just as long as you enjoy it! For example, I learned to unicycle a while back. It’s not useful, but I love riding around, and it gives me something to do for a while.

3) Try something new.  You know, that one thing you’ve always wanted to try, but ever have? Try it this summer while your time is free.

Thank you all for for reading my blogs–I appreciate it very much. Please send me any comments or feedback in the Talk Back box below.

Thank you and farewell!

Wow! That sounds great! I'm sure it'll be strange without electronics, but also a wonderful experience. Have fun, and thanks for commenting!

I'll be spending one month in a remote location with no electronics. I'll have a car but town will be a half hour drive. I'm making a schedule for how I spend my time, including ways to fend off loneliness.
